Spot Instances sell unused EC2 capacity at discounts that are often 60–90% off On-Demand. The catch: AWS can interrupt a Spot instance whenever it needs the capacity back, giving only a two-minute warning.
Spot is ideal for fault-tolerant, interruptible, or batch workloads that can checkpoint and resume. The Spot prices shown in this explorer are indicative only — derived from the AWS Spot Instance Advisor as a percentage off On-Demand — because real Spot prices move continuously and vary by Availability Zone. Never treat an indicative Spot number as a firm quote.
