Spot is indicative and interruptible — read this first
- Not a guaranteed rate. Spot prices move continuously with supply and demand. The figures here are indicative percentages off On-Demand, updated on our nightly refresh — never a firm quote.
- Capacity can be reclaimed (eviction). Azure evicts Spot VMs (with a 30-second notice) when it needs the capacity back or your price cap is exceeded. Use an eviction policy (Deallocate or Delete) and design for restart; Spot suits interruptible, stateless workloads.
- Design for it. Use Spot for fault-tolerant, checkpointable, stateless, or horizontally scaled work. Keep a fallback to On-Demand for the parts that must not be interrupted.
